We identify what’s underneath the struggle
Effective intervention begins with understanding why a student is struggling. We consider foundational number sense and mathematical understanding alongside factors such as dyscalculia, math anxiety, and working-memory demands.
We teach mathematics for understanding
Our intervention uses the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract approach to help students connect hands-on experiences, visual representations, mathematical language, and abstract notation. The goal is not simply to complete more practice—it is to build mathematical understanding.

Our approach draws on specialist training in dyscalculia and mathematics learning difficulties, the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) approach, evidence- and research-informed intervention practices, and extensive classroom experience. Our work is also informed by the research and established practices of leading mathematics learning-difficulty specialists, including Professor Steve Chinn and Judy Hornigold. We translate this knowledge into practical, structured instruction that helps students strengthen number sense, build conceptual understanding, and develop greater confidence in mathematics.
Why Reteaching Isn’t Always Enough
When a student repeatedly struggles with grade-level mathematics, simply providing more practice with the same procedure may not address the underlying difficulty. A student struggling with multi-digit multiplication, for example, may actually have gaps in place value, multiplicative reasoning, or fact relationships.Effective intervention works backward to identify those missing concepts and then rebuilds understanding systematically. That’s why Math Reach FL focuses on mathematical understanding and number sense rather than repetition alone.
